Mens mental health: Not a crutch. A solution.

Why Calmerry Is your best choice for therapy

I've made a commitment this year to…
I've made a commitment this year to become the better me. And, as part of that commitment, I decided to try out therapy for the first time. Honestly? I am a bit skeptical when people online talk about something so much, always feels like it's just hype and too good to be true. But therapy, and calmery specificaly, exceeded all my expectations! It's very fun and simple to use, I can chat and zoom with my therapist and there are also a lot of things I can do between the sessions! The way to track progress is a fun thing, almost like Duolingo streaks lol! I don't have much to compare to, but Calmery has been a great and easy experience for a newcomer into therapy.

Last few months have been really tough…
Last few months have been really tough to the point where I started feeling like I’m going to have a heart attack. The good news is that I’m physically healthy. The bad one is that it seems like I have a serious case of anxiety that I need to work on. I’ve never been to therapy before, so decided that online would be a nice middlepoint, that won’t take as much of time. Reviews and pricing pointed me into Calmerry’s direction, and I’m liking what I see so far. Matching process has been good, they’ve found me a therapist that specializes in anxiety. Had only one video session so far but video and chat combo really makes me feel like my therapist is always there for me.

Great Customer Service
Upon deciding that online therapy was not the right fit for me, I contacted customer support, and the customer service team was very helpful and responsive. They offered many options and were very understanding of my situation.

Pros: helpful professionals - Cons: app issues and time difference difficulties
The professionals are very helpful however I do think that app issues and time difference can hinder the process. One app issue I had was I would receive a notification that I received a message one minute ago (from my phone notifications) but when I would go to the app, it would actually be from 30 minutes ago. Receiving notifications 30 minutes late can add up to when professionals are available 5 hours per day, five days out of the week. Also, for any new people I would advise making sure you talk with a professional in your time zone. Personally, having a four hour time difference was difficult for me.
Nicole
I started online counseling after a series of losses that left me mentally and emotionally paralyzed. I was lonely and nothing interested me anymore. My counselor helped me find my way in my own life and a feeling of purpose. She guided me on my life’s journey from grief and despair to the place where I am now.
Adam
My counselor shared very useful techniques that help me relax and reduce the symptoms of depression. Now I feel more confident and better understand how to control my thoughts.

Frequently asked questions

Why is men’s mental health often overlooked?

Men’s mental health is overlooked due to a combination of societal expectations, stigma, and a tendency for men to underreport or minimize their struggles. Traditional gender roles often emphasize stoicism and self-reliance in men, discouraging them from expressing vulnerability or seeking help. It leads to a lack of awareness and understanding of the mental health challenges men face.

How do you help men’s mental health?

Helping men’s mental health is about creating an environment where they feel safe and supported enough to discuss their feelings. Increasing public awareness, offering mental health education, providing access to male-specific support groups and resources, encouraging open conversations, challenging stereotypes, and promoting mental well-being as part of overall health is crucial.

Why is men’s mental health important?

Mental health issues, if left unaddressed, can lead to serious consequences, including chronic health conditions, impaired quality of life, and an increased risk of suicide. Ensuring that mental health is prioritized allows men to live fuller, happier, and more productive lives.

What are common mental health issues faced by men?

Common mental health issues faced by men include depression, anxiety, stress, substance abuse, and anger management problems. Men are also at a higher risk for suicide. They may be more likely to engage in risky behaviors and less likely to seek help for emotional distress, often leading to more severe mental health conditions.

How does therapy help men specifically?

Therapy can provide a confidential and supportive space for men to explore their emotions and challenges without judgment. It helps men develop coping strategies, improve communication skills, and address underlying issues. Therapy can be tailored to men’s needs, focusing on practical solutions and emphasizing the development of strength and resilience.

What is the process for matching with a therapist?

The process for matching with a therapist typically involves an initial assessment to understand the individual’s needs and preferences. At Calmerry, we do this through a survey where you tell us more about yourself and your expectations. We then use your responses to find the best-fit counselor for your needs.

Can therapy be tailored to fit a busy schedule?

Absolutely. Calmerry offers flexible scheduling that you can curate together with your counselor. This flexibility ensures that even those with demanding schedules can access the support they need.

How can men overcome the stigma of seeking mental health help?

Overcoming the stigma begins with education and open dialogue about mental health. It involves changing the narrative to understand that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Men can be encouraged by peers, family, and role models who speak openly about their own experiences with therapy.

Are there specific strategies used in therapy for men?

Yes, therapy for men may incorporate specific strategies that resonate with male clients. This could include focusing on solution-oriented approaches, cognitive-behavioral techniques, and building on inherent strengths. Counselors might also employ strategies that align with men’s communication styles, such as action-based therapy and incorporating physical activities or hobbies.
